Fatworld: The dark side of humor

The knowledge if discomfort maketh us struggle to achieve everlasting comfort, said a wise man once! Little did he know that in the 21st century, or prolly from much before that, that fact is greater than just some phrase he coined!

I’m sure many of us have come across people with the most sarcastically sickening sense of humor. Well, at least I have. I have this friend who just won’t spare a single minute reminding my best friend what a great feeling it is to be single and not have someone bothering her (incidentally, this best friend just became a widow, and the pain is something that is still sinking in). But this brash and foolishly outspoken woman thinks it’s great humor to tease someone like that.

The funny thing is that while we seek respite from such characters in society, there are millions of video-gamers out there who find some sort of pleasure in things like that. No kidding! The best example of this is the game ‘Fatworld’( in which players navigate some consumer favourite place, rule their own chain of restaurants and convenience stores and enjoy food allergies, diabetes, heart disease and death) by the 30 year old Georgia Tech Professor who is famous for having designed even nastier games like Airport Security, Bacteria Salad, and Disaffected. Gross I’d say, but the funny thing is, with several people practically loving every bit of that, you know it’s not just sickening; it’s a well-calculated effort at being sickening. (NiRa)
